When do you have to pay for someones hospital bill?

If someone comes into your house knowing you have a dog who has been acting odd lately (we reminded him of that) and decides to go into the room where the dog is (the dog was in the kitchen with the gate up) and steps about an inch away from her face and gets nipped. Who is responsible? I know it was our dog but he knew why she was locked away and decided to take his chances anyway! We would have no problem taking care of the bills but we cant afford it! We just had a baby (and yes we are getting rid of the dog.) and we are living paycheck to paycheck paying off daily bills and my husbands school loans! He is a single guy with nothing to worry about! He owns a home and 2 vehicles and his bills are payed for with enough to spare. I guess i should add that he was engaged to my friend when it happened-everything was fine no worries..it happens..yada yada and when she broke it off he came to us asking for the money.

YOur dog. YOur problem. Everything else is he said-she said; in the end your dog bit the guy.

It%26#039;s still your dog. You could have refused to allow anyone into the house. You are responsible. It%26#039;s probably not what you wanted to hear. It should be covered by your homeowner%26#039;s or renter%26#039;s insurance, if you have it.

You can say that he is partially at fault for the events at hand and his own injuries, but most courts are going to say your dog, your problem.

Pet ownership is a huge responsibility - and can cost you if there is a problem such as this. Depending on how long ago this was you might get lucky on the statute of limitations or perhaps still be able to claim it against your home owners.

If you have homeowner%26#039;s insurance, your insurance company may pay his medical bills under what is called %26quot;medical payments coverage%26quot; regardless of whether you are at fault or not.

In the U.S., you would not be personally responsible for his medical bills unless he sues you and obtains a judgment. Under U.S. law in most if not all states, he would not likely be successful in a lawsuit because he was contributorily negligent and assumed a risk that he was fully aware of.

From my view I had been bitten my a dog, there was no beware of dog sign up. So the guy had to pay for my bill. Now if you let him know to stay away from the dog and/or a sign is visiable then you don%26#039;t have to pay for the bill. Becaused you warned him but he took his chances...
