I am a college student who came from a no parent home with no support. How can I get a loan w/o a co

Unlike most college students, I came from literally nothing. Lived in a group home until H.S. graduation. How can someone as poor as me get a school loan. I already work two jobs, earned a scholarship but still have debt for school.

Hopefully you have filed your FASFA form (contact financial aid if you need to). You may well qualify for a PELL or similar grant and other financial aid. Talk to your financial aid counselor at the college-that is what they are there for.

The counselor can direct you on available aid/loans and how to go about applying for them. Perhaps other grants also.

Try working for Americorp. Do volunteer work for

two years and if you qualify you will get close to

10,000.

If you are enrolled at least part time at an accredited school you should automatically be eligible for a student loan. Check with your financial aid office.

If have no parents or guardians and are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen, stop working.

You are classified as a financial aid independent, and if your income is low enough, you automatically qualify for a $0 EFC (estimated family contribution), which should make you eligible for extensive federal, state, and institutional grants, as well as work-study and subsidized Stafford and Perkins Loans. Talk to your school%26#039;s Financial Aid Office; they will help you meet the entire COA (Cost of Attendance).

It is in your best interest to stop working and study full-time.
