Question about hood rat types throwing money away on dumb ****?

Do you think any of this is hurting the poor and minorities at all? I know it%26#039;s not the only reason , but I always thought Gucci, Coach, Mark Jacobs, and 400 dollar cell phones were for the well off and in most of the ghettos in the east coast I see ALOT of poor young people covered in this stuff while not having enough for a decent place, no savings, and defaulting on school loans (if they even went). all the while acting like it%26#039;s necessary to have it? what do you think?

Question about hood rat types throwing money away on dumb ****?

I think you have made a very good observation of what I call %26quot;poverty mentality%26quot;.

People who let expensive items define who they are and also people who have the grass is greener over at %26quot;the Jone%26#039;s Home%26quot;. Basically, trying to keep up with everyone else while living (in some cases) below the poverty line. And not paying bills with jacked up credit. The sad thing is a year from now they%26#039;ll be spending more money (bill money mind you) on the newest Marc Jacob, Gucci, or whatever else product brands them (in their mind) as %26quot;I%26#039;ve arrive!%26quot;

Let me just say this, we all know or know of what you called %26quot;hood rats%26quot; or someone like this throwing money away on crazy expensive crap...In most cases I%26#039;ve found people like this grew up never having much and wishing they had what others had, but not being educated on the correct way of obtaining such items. I%26#039;m not making excuses, but sharing what I have personally observe. Plus, some of these same people live their lives according to what pop culture and the media is pumping out at them...And in the meantime the light bill is due, baby need diapers...not a new Coach Diaper bag...thecar payment is due...but I had to get those rims....and rent is due..yes you are walking around wearing name brand everything with no savings account..and you still rent, with no plan to purchase...POVERTY MENTALITY..very sad!

Also, it%26#039;s intersting but the people who can actually afford the above mentioned stuff in your question...actually don%26#039;t wear it in bulk or buy it unless it%26#039;s an exclusive unique item! They know it looses value once everyone else is marching around in it...like Pookie nem!

Question about hood rat types throwing money away on dumb ****?

Well, I hope you also understand that are minorites that can afford this stuff. But I know what you mean. I worked at a High end clothing store (Burberry) over my spring break. I was helping a woman who wanted to buy a $300 dog collar, which is cool if you have it like that. We did not have anymore, so I suggested maybe another place for to go. I asked her where she lived, she told me, ant the city is one of THE worst in New Jersey. I was still nice, but I was like %26#039;wow%26quot; For the money you are planning to spend on this little dog collar, you could save so you could get out of the city you are in, where somebody would probably snatch the collar right off the dog. Nothing is wrong with luxury items, which is why I am working hard in school so I can afford them without issue.

Well, it could be fakes or they could be getting that stuff with drug money or prostitution money. People that go into those lines of work might have never had anyone show them how to save and budget and they might also be afraid to put it in the bank or anything because it would arouse suspicion. If you get your money in illegal ways it can seem like it%26#039;s better to spend it all right away before it%26#039;s taken by the police or you get killed or put in jail. You pretty much live for the moment when you%26#039;re in that kind of lifestyle. They also could have stolen these items - it is easier to steal items than it is to steal money.

PS: I know you didn%26#039;t mean this to be racist - believe me there are PLENTY of %26quot;hood rat types%26quot; who are white as can be. Lots of little blonde hookers running around trying to be Paris Hilton by day.

Question about hood rat types throwing money away on dumb ****?

I think that your question is very racist. By saying %26quot;hood rat types%26quot; and %26quot;defaulting on school loans %26#039;if they even went%26#039;%26quot; you spout complete ignorance and further stereotypes. If people live in government housing, have assistance from the state etc.. This does not imply that they all are on welfare, are not educated, can not work or pay bills etc.. Many people rich and poor buy expensive things because they want to have nice things. Living so close to NY, I know I can get great knockoffs for 3/4ths the price and appear to have the real thing, so I%26#039;m sure this is what others do also. So is their buying this stuff hurting them? is that your question? No, Buying a nice pair of shoes, cell phone,purse whatever, won%26#039;t change their situation.

I did read what you wrote and you can disagree with me, but the words you wrote do have racial connotations.

Think of it from the standpoint of a social psychologist. It is the fault of society that this phenomenon is occurring. These things you speak of are all associated with a high status. These people who do this want to appear as though they are not poor. The trappings of a man/woman tells the world where they are in life. These people think that having these items will get them some respect from those in the higher class. There is actually a sociological theory on this very thing, but I just can%26#039;t think of the name of it. I%26#039;ll get back to you on that.
