Recently I got an offer from a multi-nation HR consulting company. I know this company does background check, and I am very concerned that my offer may be retracted due to my poor credit history. I do not have bankrupcy or anything like that, and mostly what I have are late payment for school loans and one revolving account, and no unpaid balance now. Should I call my employer%26#039;s HR and tell them up front about my credit in my past, or I really cannot do anything at this point of time? What should I do to repair my credit?

Hi.....in my personal opinion having worked in a human resource office years ago, it%26#039;s really not a great idea to inform any employers about your past credit history. Besides, I don%26#039;t even think they are allowed to ask something like that in an interview due to legal issues.

Unfortunately bad credit can affect a person%26#039;s ability to acquire a good job. Many employers today run a complete background check but those are primarily to find information on past criminal activity that could range anywhere from substance abuse, assault and battery, bank robbery to child molestation.

You might be put at ease to know that very few employers will avoid hiring a person based upon a poor credit history, which is not to say that the company in question is one of the few who won%26#039;t. It truly depends upon each individual company, their policies and regulations.

Only jobs where you deal with a lot of money. Normally in an HR position they will just do a background check that doesn%26#039;t include your actual credit.

Bad credit affects a lot of jobs that deal with being in charge of money. If your credit is bad you won%26#039;t be in charge of controlling funds. I think you are fine if your not controlling funds. Congrats on the new job.
