Christians, is debt a sin?

I%26#039;ve never heard this until I read it in an answer a couple minutes ago. How is debt a sin? Is some debt okay, and not other debt, or is it all wrong? Is it wrong to get a mortgage? What about school loans?

Sometimes you don%26#039;t have a choice if you want a decent education. We don%26#039;t all have Mommy and Daddy%26#039;s pocketbook paving the way.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I don%26#039;t think it%26#039;s wrong unless you%26#039;re intentionally taking money you know you won%26#039;t be able to return. I think that%26#039;s what debt means in the biblical sense.

Christians, is debt a sin?

No it isnt!!

Christians, is debt a sin?

Refusing to pay your debt, or going into debt that you can not pay is theft.

Assuming reasonable debt that you can repay is ok.

Christians, is debt a sin?

it realy depends on the motive behind the debt

Christians, is debt a sin?

I don%26#039;t think so, I think that if you had no intentions of paying it back then that would be the same as stealing, but debts like a mortgage etc are perfectly normal things to have in this day and age, and I cannot see that sort of debt being a sin. If you borrow loads of money and don%26#039;t try to pay it back then I reckon that%26#039;s as sinful as stealing.

Christians, is debt a sin?

No, that is ridiculous! Some debt is ok. I mean no one can usually just go buy a house with cash.

Christians, is debt a sin?

If you are not accumulating a debt you know you cannot pay, I don%26#039;t think, I don%26#039;t know, you will be convicted immediately by The HOly Spirit when you sin, If you go out and take something you know you can never pay back it will be like trying to get over on someone, and I believe anywhere when you hurt another or lie it is a sin.

Christians, is debt a sin?

depends

if you charge 1000s of dollars in clothing which you can%26#039;t afford.............it is sin because the heart was coveting and greedy and not right.

Certain debts are ok

Christians, is debt a sin?

of course it isnt but the christian teaching make it like one...

Christians, is debt a sin?

Debt is in now way a sin. Failure to attempt to relieve the debt is dishonest, but still not a sin. If you%26#039;re trying, there%26#039;s no problem Who ever said that is just thumping their bible to judge their fellow man.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I don%26#039;t think it is.

Sometimes debt may not be a wise choice, but how many people buy their homes with cash, or I%26#039;m with you finance their school loans (I%26#039;m still about 30K down on them).

You couldn%26#039;t save fast enough to pay for school tuition rates would increase and eat you alive.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I%26#039;ve stated before I am not a Christian but I know Debt is not a Sin it%26#039;s just a bunch of wrong decisions you%26#039;ve made to get you into debt.

Christians, is debt a sin?

No. Charging interest on a debt is sin (it%26#039;s called usury).

Christians, is debt a sin?

Debt is not a sin itself. But that question asked about running up debt, with no intention of repaying it, because you believe the world is ending. That%26#039;s the sin.

However, it is good to avoid debt to the extent possible.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I think they are talking about impulse buying or something like that.

and i read that..

%26quot;the major sin is lack of trust in God---that I won閳ユ獩 get what I need, God won閳ユ獩 give me what I need unless I go in debt for it. That閳ユ獨 a real fundamental problem in a lot of other sins. People commit sins because they don閳ユ獩 really believe God is going to help them.%26quot;

Christians, is debt a sin?

no but if you go in debt to buy a fancy car yes

Christians, is debt a sin?

Charging intrest is, so the entire banking industry would be a sin. The sin of debt would not be yours, but lender who charged interest.

Christians, is debt a sin?

helping each other is not sin

Christians, is debt a sin?

Yes. According to the Lord%26#039;s Prayer, it says, %26quot;Forgive us our debts and we forgive our debtors%26quot; another version says, %26quot;Forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us%26quot;

The Lord%26#039;s Prayer is the model of prayer that Jesus taught us, as recorded in the gospels of Matthew and Luke (.) It is presented here in traditional and modern language:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

hallowed be thy name.

Thy Kingdom come,

thy will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory. for ever and ever. Amen

Another version says this:

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be your name.

Your Kingdom come,

your will be done,

on earth as in heaven

Give us today our daily bread.

Forgive us our sins,

as we forgive those who sin against us.

Lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours.

Now and for ever. Amen

DEBT and SIN and TRESPASSES are used interchangeably. Anyone who believes otherwise, is wrong. Given what DEBT and SIN mean to the church and to Christians, what does that tell you about the US deficit?

%26quot;Forgive us our debts (or transgressions) as we also have forgiven our debtors (transgressors)%26quot; -- This speaks about forgiveness among our associates, neighbors, friends, family and loved ones. Any and all persons in our lives that we come in contact with in social or business situations are included as well. If we can%26#039;t forgive others, how can we expect our heavenly Father to forgive us?

Christians, is debt a sin?

No but those who give out loans and tack on interest are sinning...

Exodus 22:25 (New American Standard Bible)

25%26quot;If you lend money to My people, to the poor among you, you are not to act as a creditor to him; you shall not charge him interest.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I don%26#039;t think debt is a sin. However as followers of Christ we want to be as free as we can of anything that will distract us from having him as our sovereign. We should try to avoid getting involved in commitments that will divide our commitment to Christ alone. Which I understand to mean, yes sometimes debt is inevitable but it is unwise and may even be possibly sinful to go into debt simply to acquire things that we want and don%26#039;t really need. That would be the same as willingly enslaving oneself to one%26#039;s material desires. I do believe that Christ%26#039;s teaching suggests that believers should not hold other people in debt.

Christians, is debt a sin?

You are all right. It%26#039;s if you have no intention of paying back. Some people get carried away with getting into debt. It would be worse to be in debt and go after someone else in an unforgiving manner, as portrayed in the New Testament.

Christians, is debt a sin?

Depends on what type of debt...

Christians, is debt a sin?

Bad idea, absolutely!... Sin?.... dunno....

To me, debt is bondage, self-induced slavery. My future earnings (and therefore, my time) is no longer mine, because I%26#039;ve promised it away. Even the money I earn isn%26#039;t mine- I%26#039;ve already spent it.

Christians, is debt a sin?

I agree with you, but unfortunately, yes....debt is a sin.

In fact, my pastor just preached on this yesterday and he said that you are not supposed to live above and beyond your means...which is considered debt.

Just remember that you will not leave this earth with anything that you %26quot;have%26quot;....only with your soul.

Christians, is debt a sin?

That one is up there with %26quot;menopause is punishment for sin%26quot;.

Christians, is debt a sin?

no...its usurious interest that stinks and sucks...

Christians, is debt a sin?

Have you ever seen the Merchant of Venice (the new one with Joseph Fienes, Robert DeNiro, and Jeremy Irons is really good)?

Many people interpret the new testament as considering the lending and borrowing of money to be a sin: %26quot;Neither a borrower or lender be.%26quot; That is why Christians had to sneak over to the Jews to borrow money. That is also why, when the Christians had amassed so much debt that they could not pay it off, that they %26quot;purged%26quot; the towns of the sinful Jews (thus clearing their financial debt by having the person they owed money to killed).

Christians, is debt a sin?

It%26#039;s a sin if you have no intention of paying, and you%26#039;re causing the debtor to suffer unduly. Ideally, we should owe no one anything but our compassion and charity.

Christians, is debt a sin?

No it%26#039;s not a sin.

Christians, is debt a sin?

ur question is a sin.
