We had one joint account. They told us it wouldn%26#039;t be closed and he could pay off the debt and still use it. But they lied and closed it and other creditors are refusing him. What can i do to help him since I got him in this mess. Now i%26#039;m worried he will be refused for school loans too. thanks.

If he needs to apply for credit, you can use those documents to prove that it was not his case. Also, the account may show %26quot;inlcuded in Bankruptcy%26quot; the credit, but it will also show that he was either joint or listed as a co-applicant on the debt. He should be fine. The terrible thing is I did have an attorney, and he didn%26#039;t advise of this potential mess, and won%26#039;t even talk to me. He was so stupid he didn%26#039;t know where I needed to mail in bankrupcy forms to the orginal creditor or one of the big three! Would had better luck at a banrupty mill clinic. Report It

My father and brother had this same problem.

My father had my brother on his CD%26#039;s at the bank as Co-owner and my brother owed the IRS a lot of money due to the fact that the trucking company he started failed. The Government just took the money out of Dad%26#039;s account as my brothers SS number was on it as a co-owner.

I would get a real lawyer who handles bankruptcy as their is just too many factors in each particular state that differ.

Yes, there will be a lot of trouble but since you are owning up to be the guilty partner then I think it would behove you to do the right thing and get some legal help pronto for your son.
